Day 317 of the 365 Days of Blogging

The author/publisher,
Dane F. Baylis

JUST SO YOU KNOW

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Most of you who visit this page on a regular basis, (Yeah, I know - Wishful thinking on my part), have probably formulated an image of me as an irascible old bastard who rarely has a good word for anybody. I'm declaring right now, you nailed it. Except for tonight.

Why? Because tonight I'm on my way up to Ojai, (Oh, hi!), in the mountains of Ventura County to spend some time with a group of pretty remarkable young people. What makes them special? Well, the fact that they gather in an essentially open air venue at a time of year when the temperatures dip pretty rapidly after sunset is one reason. That they do this to write and recite poetry under those conditions is another. The fact that they do it pretty damned well considering their youth and relative inexperience is just damned awesome!

The whole thing is arranged by Aaron Gardener, a recent winner in the Poetry Superhighway 2013 competition. It's his devotion, and energy that fuels these evenings and inspires his charges to accomplish more than they felt they could. If you don't think that's serious in the X-Box age you need to adjust your frame of reference.

So there you have it. My divergence from the usual. Take it for what you will.

Meanwhile...live, love, write, and pass it on!
